So, you’re all set for Rás na mBan but your team isn’t planning to travel? Well there are still options and many riders over the years have found places as guests on other teams.

Every year we get queries from riders looking to compete in Rás na mBan and this year is no different. Here’s a brief ‘how to’ guide for the ‘unattached’ solo competitors looking forward to Kilkenny in September.

Make your availability known

Get proactive. Post a request for a team on the Rás na mBan facebook page or tweet to @rasnamban and we’ll retweet to our community.

Look out for teams with space

Scan social media looking for vacancies and if we hear of teams looking for riders, we’ll pass on your details. If you’re a team manager looking to fill your roster, feel free to post on facebook and twitter.

Form a team – Composite squads

The route taken by several riders over the years has been to form a composite team. The only strict rule is that you must wear the same jerseys.

It’s up to you to make your own arrangements but remember, we’ve got neutral service at the event and we can collect you from and drop you off at the airport. It’s easier to have support, though…

*Please note that, as per race rules, if the guest rider doesn’t normally reside in Ireland then your team won’t qualify for the Irish team award. It will still qualify for the for the best overall team award, of course.

Riders can join teams from outside Ireland regardless of the nationality indicated by their UCI code.

We hope that clarifies the situation and we look forward to seeing you all in Kilkenny in September.
